Thoughts on the Mission (a friend’s poem)

Note: A friend of mine wrote this poem.  My understanding is that one of the stanzas contains lyrics from a Christian song, but that the rest is his own work.  Great message, so I wanted to share it with everyone.

Shadowed hollow, darkened stream

It all seems a dreadful dream

But I do not awaken, it turns out to be real

Just out of reach but not to far to feel

In sadness and darkness our dying world lies

We sit beside sadness, amongst many cries

Of hatred and sorrow, of pain and despair

But our once perfect people do not even care

So Christians among you,

Rise up and begin

Your work many people

Strong effort can win

For the world is of darkness

Our past of sin

God urges us now

Our work to begin

Do not work for glory

Do not work for gold

Work to save lost souls

Who need to be told

About our God’s love

For all, young and old
