A Rebelutionary on a Reformission…

It Is Coming

Posted by David Ketter on July 16, 2006

Revival is coming.  As you know, my series “Revive Us, O LORD” dealt with the concept of revival and exploring various aspects of its nature and effects.  Over my experience of nearly two years (September 29th will be my second blog-iversary), I have written many times of the need for revival in our youth, in our churches, in our country, and in our world at large.  I’ve spoke of the need to revive doctrine and spirituality.  It doesn’t take any amount of Biblical knowledge to see that revival is, indeed, needed in every area of life.  For those of you who have been saying “Amen” to all of this, I have three words for you that God spoke to my spirit today: Revival is coming.  For the rest of you, there are three other words: deal with it.

Today, at church, three people came forward to address the congregation – one with a prophecy and two with exhortation and encouragement.  All of them spoke to God’s call to revival for our church.  This correlated, providentially, with the pastor’s sermon – addressing the Church in Sardis in Revelation 3:1-6.  As a congregation, we truly believe that we are being called to pray for revival in our own church, in our community, and in the Universal body of believers.  Whether you like it or not, it is coming.

In the Christian community of Western Pennsylvania, I am seeing a growing awareness and reaction to the recognized need for revival.  I see God moving in many ways in our youth, especially, to let the Spirit pour out once more.  Many youth are receiving a call to ministry – youth that, prior to this call, thought of doing everything but ministry.  God is moving and I am eagerly awaiting for the Captain’s command: “Go!”

One thing that I think will distinguish this revival from all past revivals – the Pentecost of the First Century, the Reformation, the First, Second, and Third Great Awakenings, the Asuza Street Revival, and the Charismatic Revival of the 1950’s and ’60’s – is that I feel very strongly that youth will play the dominant role in it.  They will be at the forefront, leading the charge, calling for change.  After all, organizations and ministries like Regenerate Our Culture, Operation Completion, and the soon-to-be released Spirit of Timothy Magazine – all part of the Rebelution – have been started and operated entirely on the initiative and hard work of dedicated Christian youth.  Revival is coming, but it’s coming from a quarter none have looked to before.

    I do not mean to be rude at all. How do you know that Revival is coming? Yes it has facts about when it will start in revalations but still you said you didn’t even have to look at the Bible. How do you know?

    2Th 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition;

    Mat 24:12 And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.

    I really honestly see everything but a revival coming. I could be wrong or overtly pessimistic, but everything is going so far away from God, including “Christians.” They accept some wishy washy “God loves you” religion, but do not want to truly give their lives to God.

    I wish there was a revival coming, but I can’t really see it.

    Emily, you make good use of prophecy concerning the last days. Yet, it is also indicated in prophecy that there shall be a great revival and return to God before “the love of many” is grown cold. There is a revival for Israel in Ezekiel 38 and 39. From this, we can deduce that the “full number of the Gentiles” is very near its mark.

    Your statement about the reality of the Church today is accurate…it’s very lost and in much need of revival. Recall, if you will, the letters to the Church in Revelation 2 & 3 – in each of these, Jesus basically decreed that they must put forth to revival efforts and, as He said to Sardis, “WAKE UP!” In one of them, He even says “I am coming soon.” To me, that says loud and clear that the Church is going to be caught up with a bang… :)

    I think that whole “coming soon” thing is about the rapture, which isn’t a revival, just a rapture of the true believers. I think it might surprise people, considering so many go to church and think that thier attendance puts them in God’s good books, but they still do not not have Jesus Christ in their lives.

    But then again, we just live in America (and Canada), and our standard of living is way higher than in some other countries, so people can live quite comfortably and not worry about thier sin in a society that accepts it. However, I have no idea, actually, what the situation is worldwide. I think probably there must be millions of Christians in China, Russia and places all around the world that are probably more spiritually alive than we are. They’re just under the types of government that doesn’t allow them to shout “Here we are!” So there’s probably been revivals going on in other places that haven’t quite been brought to our eye? Hopefully.

    I have been a youth pastor for over eight and a half years, and I cannot think of anyone who is more hungry for revival than I am. I have seen touches of His power on our young people (in our little church of 150 adults we have about that many youth), but I want more. I am so deseperate for a huge move of God to bring thousands of hurting and dying young people into the kingdom. I cannot afford to NOT believe what you are saying is true. We must have this move, and if enough of us cry out long enough, I know our Lord will not turn a deaf ear to the cries of the broken hearted. My hands are literally shaking right now with anticipation and hunger pangs. Just know that you have one broken hearted youth pastor in an ugly area of Denver, CO, ready to die to see one young person saved.

  12. Nathan:

    Keep after God. He’s not going to ignore our cries. I’m glad you have this same desire. I would encourage you to talk to your youth about this. If they catch this fire, I think we’ll see a moving in Denver. “The glory of the LORD will be our rear-guard”

  13. I overlooked one of your post through a tag surf, and I thought you might be interesed in this site… http://www.ihop.org. They have articles, Israel mandate, …and more.
